[edit] Installation

[edit] Windows

Version 7 of the client software can be downloaded from here:

  • Pocket PC:

funambol-pocketpc-plugin-7.0.8.exe or funambol-pocketpc-plugin-7.0.8.cab

  • Windows Mobile / Smart Phone:

funambol-smartphone-plugin-7.0.8.exe or funambol-smartphone-plugin-7.0.8.cab

[edit] Unix

On any Unix flavour, including MacOS, you can download the latest cab file from the funambol website (see below).

If you don't want to use the device browser directly, in Ubuntu you can do this:

  1. Download the appropriate funambol client for your phone. Choose the ".exe" file rather than the ".cab" file.
  2. Install Wine if it is not installed. This lets you run Windows programs.
  3. Run the Funambol installer with Wine, using a command like wine funambol-pocketpc-plugin-7.0.8.exe in a Terminal window. This will extract the files into the Program Files/Funambol/ directory.
  4. A popup will say something about needing activesync - just hit OK, the files were uncompressed despite the error. Now you need to get the .cab file to your phone.
  5. Navigate to .wine/drive_c/Program Files/Funambol/Windows Mobile Plug-in
  6. That's where you can find the setup-ppc-wm5.CAB file. Now you can transfer the cab file to your PDA (through Bluetooth [instructions??], a shared folder over Wi-Fi, email to yourself and long-click to Save As, or USB cable), and install from there.

Note, that if you use synce, you can install the cab remotely using the PC: synce-instal-cab funambol-pocketpc-wm5-plugin-6.0.18.cab.

[edit] Chronobis

I just found out about Chronobis today --MarkSwanson 16:58, 9 July 2008 (EDT) and it might be a solution for folks that want to sync their Windows Mobile phone with Exchange: http://www.chronobis.com/Default.aspx

[edit] Compression Problems

Sometimes a proxy will re-compress already compressed data. This will cause your sync to fail. In this case you need to disable compression in the client. This CAB file will do this for you.

Alternatively, you can change the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Funambol\SyncclientPIM\spds\syncml\Conn\enableCompression" to 0.
